Finally, my life in America started!!
ついに念願かなってサンフランシスコ駐在が始まった。
昨日は歓迎会を開いて頂き、到着したその日に2時まで飲むという過酷なスケジュール。
今日は何もする予定がなかったためよく寝ようと思ったら16時まで寝てしまった。
さて、せっかく新鮮な経験ができる2年間、大変だった前後のことも含めて記録に残そうと思う。
Finally, I began to work in San Francisco. My colleagues held a welcome party yesterday. I really enjoyed that, so it lasted until 2 am. Fortunately, I didn't have any plans today. I slept until 4 pm.
I guess I will experience a lot of impressive things in the next 2 years. So, I intend to keep a diary as much as I can.
まず、到着日のこと。
到着当初に滞在したのは以下のホテル。
ちなみに、なぜここを選んだかというと、猫も泊まれるから。
アメリカのPet Friendly Hotelというのは、通常Dog Friendly Hotelらしく、いくつか問い合わせしてみたが実際断られることが多かった。
ならPet Friendly Hotelじゃなくて、Dog Friendly Hotelと書いてほしい。
First, about the day I arrived, I stayed at the following hotel. The reason why I chose this hotel is because it allows us to stay with our cats. I didn't know that but the American pet-friendly hotel normally means "Dog" friendly hotel. Actually, I asked some hotels if I can stay with my cat, and their answers were "We can't accept cats". I want them to describe they are "NOT" pet-friendly hotels but "DOG" friendly hotels.

部屋はきれいだし一階にはバーもビリヤード台も、カラオケもあって不満はない。
早速発見があったことといえば、英語圏の人も英語詞は所見で歌うのは厳しそうということ。
初めて外国人がカラオケしているのを見たが、Bloc Partyとか自分が知っている歌をいくらか歌っていたけど、意外に上手くはなかった。
英語圏の人はみんな歌が上手いというのも、ある種偏見なのかもしれない。
The room is really clean, and there are a bar, billiard, and Karaoke. So, I think it's enough to stay for a short period. Some people enjoyed singing. What I found on my first day of America is that it is difficult for not only us but also the people who speak English as their mother tongue to sing English songs. It might be kind of prejudice that people who are native English speakers are basically good at singing.
設備といえば、電子レンジ・ポットがないのが痛かった。
とはいえ、電子レンジがあっても冷凍ができる冷蔵庫があるわけでもないので、冷食を買い込んでおくのは難しそうだ。
Regarding this hotel's equipment, it was disappointing for me that there are no microwaves and electric kettles. However, if there were them, there are no refrigerators which can freeze. So, it is difficult to keep frozen foods in this room.
近場でスーパーに行くとしたら、Luckyが一番近そう。
大きなスーパーでなんでも揃うので、徒歩圏にあるのは助かった。
ただ、水が24本セットしか売ってなかった（見つけられなかった）のは痛かった。
徒歩ではきつい。
しかたなく、炭酸水4本、一本ずつ売ってる水を3本購入することにした。（セットのほうが圧倒的に安い）
If you wanna go to the supermarket, Lucky may be the nearest one. It is a big supermarket. So, you can buy almost everything there. It took less than 15min from the hotel, so I was happy that it is located near the hotel.
近場で一人で飯を食うなら、サンフランシスコの大手バーガーチェーンのIn-N-Out Burger。
しかしスーパーで結構買い込んでしまったため、すごい並んでいたので断念。
Also, if you wanna eat alone, In-N-Out Burger is one of the most attractive candidates. But, my hands were full because I bought a lot of bottles and foods at the supermarket. And, unfortunately, there were many people who were waiting for the order. So, I gave up to buy a burger there.
そんなわけで、最初の教訓は、ホテルに泊まるなら周りの環境をもっとよく調べてから泊まれ、ということでした。
日本の感覚でいると近くに何もないこともあり得るので、次からは気をつけようと思います。
My first lesson in America was that I should look into the environment around the hotel when I make a reservation. This time, I put too much importance to stay with my cat, so I forgot to do that. If I keep Japanese sense, I might make more serious mistakes. So, I'll be careful from now on.
